Mom made this bread all the time while growing up. There was nothing better than coming home from school to the aroma of freshly baked bread wafting through the air. Her bread recipe bakes up beautifully golden brown. Best enjoyed simply slathered with a bit of butter, but also great for toasting. Freezes well.
I'm not sure who was the originator of this buttermilk dressing recipe, maybe Aunt Loma Gereau-Carlson or Aunt Lola Schafer. What I do remember is this was my dad, Pug Steinhoff's favorite salad dressing recipe and was always a staple in our refrigerator while growing up. He would put in on everything including potatoes and fish. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the he was a bit particular about making it only with Jilbert's Dairy Buttermilk. This is the perfect dressing to pour over some sliced cucumbers and onions.
